Sunday School Goals:
The goal of Sunday School at Southminster Presbyterian Church is to provide a nurturing Christian learning environment where children and adults can feel safe to explore and question and where they can grow in faith and service to Jesus Christ by focusing on the Bible, the essentials of Christian faith, and the history and doctrines of the church.  Our goal is also to provide students with opportunities to apply their understanding of the faith to their everyday lives.

Adult Christian Education 9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
Answering repeated requests from choir members and Sunday School teachers to have a chance to be fed spiritually and as an opportunity for early risers who can’t stick around until 9:50 a.m., we are offering a new Adult Christian Education opportunity at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel.

Sunday School Stewardship Program
The Neighborhood Academy is a faith-based, private non-profit school whose curriculum and program is focused on providing a college-preparatory education to low-income students, grades 8-12. Their approach to success includes an extended school day (8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.), very small classes, close and ongoing communication with families, and a rigorous academic curriculum focusing on reading, writing, analytical thinking, math, and lab sciences. They also provide counseling, transportation, three meals a day and assistance with emergency needs like medical care. Their program even extends into the summers, providing young people with cultural and academic opportunities to keep young people safe and off the street while increasing their potential for success in college. More than 90 per cent of the graduates from the Neighborhood Academy have gone on to successful college careers.

How You Can Help! The kids who attend the Neighborhood Academy need help getting even the most basic school supplies. You can help by purchasing the same kinds of things you use in school each day and bringing them to church so that we can take them to the Neighborhood Academy for the kids to use in class.  They could use :

Notebook paper Spiral Notebooks Paints
Binders Highlighters Paintbrushes
Folders Scissors Basketballs
Pencils Compasses Volleyballs
Pens Printer paper Golfclubs
Rulers Staplers Track Equipment
Protractors Staples Charcoals
Erasers Index cards Drawing Pads

Sunday School Learning Covenant
I agree to treat my teachers and fellow students with respect by:

  • Participating in all activities
  • Arriving with and maintaining a positive attitude
  • Listening to teachers and fellow students
  • Making sure that everyone gets a turn to participate
  • Speaking kindly to others—even when we disagree
  • Not hurting others with words or actions
  • Taking good care of my classroom and class materials
  • Trying new things without complaining
  • Loving others as much as I love myself
  • Encouraging everyone to join in

By signing this covenant, I agree to follow these rules—even when other people forget to follow them.
