At Southminster there are many ways to participate in the planning and organization of activities that help our members grow in Christ.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COMMISSION (CE): The CE commission creates, directs and promotes educational ministry to the church's members. It is our responsibility to develop, coordinate, and evaluate programs and services which provide opportunities for increased knowledge, growth and commitment to Jesus Christ and preparation for participation in mission.

Committees that report to CE include: Southminster Childcare Center, Southminster Nursery School, Adult Education, Children's Church School programs, Tuesday Night Live, Special Education committee, and Windy Ridge.

COLUMBARIUM COMMITTEE: The purpose of the Columbarium Committee is to maintain Southminster's Memorial Columbarium in a suitable and tasteful condition, to provide information regarding the use of the facility to any Southminster member, and to provide management of all administrative and financial issues related to the use of the Columbarium. Space is currently available in the Columbarium.

DEACONS: It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. Deacons are elected by the congregation.

WEEKLY EVENTS: Visitation of those in Nursing Homes and shut-ins; Support the South Hills Food Pantry; Limited Mobility Lending of Medical Equipment; Birthday Cards to elderly members; Sunday Driving Program to Church Service; Delivery of Flowers to Shut Ins; Serving Coffee Hour; and Greeting at the end of the church service.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Packing for the South Hills Food Pantry; Two Blood Drives – December and April; Care Packages to College Kids in October and April.

MEMBERSHIP COMMISSION : The Membership Commission evangelizes, recruits and develops new members. It also encourages congregational involvement.

NURTURE AND FELLOWSHIP: Nurture and Fellowship aspires to help everyone in the congregation feel connected to Southminster through a variety of social gatherings throughout the year. By being together, members strengthen their old relationships and form new ones.

It plans and organizes the All-Church Picnic, Thanksgiving dinner, the Men's retreat at Windy Ridge, and the Progressive Dinner.

SOUTHMINSTER SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: This committee administers Southminster Church's scholarship program, established through designated funds and bequests, to assist High School graduates as they move to higher education.

SPECIAL NEEDS COMMITTEE: The Special Needs Committee provides support for physically handicapped or mentally challenged members and visitors to Southminster Church so that all may partake and benefit from the many activities that Southminster offers.

A Caregivers Group meets the first Wednesday of every month at 6:30 PM. A personal attendant assists children with special needs in Sunday School.

WINDY RIDGE COMMITTEE: The Windy Ridge Committee oversees the Windy Ridge facility in Greene County. It can always use volunteers to help monitor and maintain the facility.

WORSHIP COMMISSION : The Worship Commission and Music Ministries reach out to our members, neighbors and community members with opportunities for worship through which we all might be nurtured, challenged, and even transformed by the grace of God. In so doing, we deepen our faith and the faith of others through this outreach.

Along with the weekly offering of traditional and W.I.N.D services, this Commission offers three (3) candlelight Christmas Eve services, a special Scottish Sunday service in May, a sunrise service on Easter morning, Youth Sunday service, Confirmation Sunday, and special music programs. Also, the following programs fall under the Worship Commission: Ushers/Greeters, Chancel Choir, Handbell teams, Tower Bells, Southminster Strings, Children's choirs, Acolytes/Beadles/Crossbearers, and Communion preparation.
