Good News for Doris
A few weeks ago, at our Ndirande session, a new mother and daughter came in and sat on the bamboo mat. The daughter was adorable. I asked Mrs. Maxwell who they were and why they were there. She did not know, so we called them forward and chatted with the mother. She took off her small daughter’s shoes and socks and showed us that she had six toes on her right foot and the two largest ones were deformed. I told her that she should go to Cure Hospital (a Christian Orthopedic Hospital that specializes in free care for children in developing nations) and have her daughter, Doris, checked. We gave her transport money.
This week Jess (the mother) was back with a big smile on her face and a large manila envelope. Inside were x-rays of Doris’s foot. She showed them proudly to all of us. The doctors at Cure are going to operate on Doris! This will be done free of charge.
Sometimes it just takes a little bit of caring to make a big difference in someone’s life. I hope that I can remember that when I get back to the U.S.A.
