A Christ Centered... Intentionally Missional Congregation
A Rich Tradition... A Transforming Future
Hunger Ministries
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in...”
Mathew 25:35
Hunger Offering
As we gather at the Lord’s Table on the first Sunday of each month, we remember how richly we have been blessed because of Jesus’ sacrifice. We honor that sacrifice by remembering those who do not have a table to gather around and helping to feed others. A monthly Hunger Offering is received at all three Celebrations of Worship and funds are then distributed to local, national, and international organizations focused on addressing hunger.
South Hills Food Pantry
Housed at Southminster, this ministry provides needed food to people in the South Hills who are unable to travel to a food pantry by delivering food right to their door. Truly a community partnership, the food pantry is supported by many local organizations in addition to Southminster’s congregation. New volunteers and community organizations are invited to partner with us in serving our neighbors in need.
For information on receiving food support or to volunteer, click here or call the Church Office at 412-343-8900.
Produce to People
A service of the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, this program distributes produce and grocery items to at-need families throughout Allegheny County. Three times each year Southminster friends and families spend a Saturday morning hosting the food distribution on Pittsburgh’s Northside. We may help to sort vegetables, distribute items to the recipients, or assist elderly individuals with carrying their groceries. Youth age 12 or older, accompanied by a parent, are always welcome.  This is a great family volunteer opportunity. Read more about this organization at
East End Cooperative Ministry
This organization serves the frail, the homebound elderly, the hungry, the homeless, and youth in the neighborhoods of East Liberty, Garfield, Lincoln-Lemington, and Larimer by providing urgent necessities such as food and shelter. One Sunday each month Southminster high school students cook and serve breakfast for homeless men at EECM. Read more about this organization at
Community 341
Community 341 represents the coming together of Lutherans, Presbyterians, and the Brookline neighborhood in celebration of the Trinity and the fact Christ is for everyone. On Wednesdays, Community 341 provides the neighborhood the opportunity to fellowship, worship, and enjoy a meal together. The heart of its mission is to answer Christ’s call to feed His sheep both spiritually and physically. Southminster is one of several local churches who prepare and serve dinner throughout the year.
