“In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now…” –Philippians 1:4-5
House of Manna
The House of Manna Faith Community is an African American centered, multi-ethnic missional community located in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh. A critical part of House of Manna’s work in the community is to toil for social justice for all of God’s people. In addition to gathering for worship, they provide food, clothing, shelter and transportation for their neighbors and have developed a number of programs which promote education and leadership development. Southminster is one of several local churches partnering with this growing congregation as it works to build relationships within the wider community. Read more about this organization at
Open Door: Garfield Community Farm
The Open Door Presbyterian Church, located in Pittsburgh’s east end, “…seeks to live in the way of Jesus by practicing simple weekly rhythms…” by listening and learning from God, eating with and encouraging others, and being active in the world.
Garfield Community Farm, two organic gardens, was implemented by the Open Door in partnership with Valley View Presbyterian Church. The Farm is tended by members of the community who then reap the benefits of fresh produce.
During the summer months Southminster has participated in evening gardening work at the Farm.
