 | | Rev. Laura Bentley has worked in various ministry roles in the Pittsburgh region for the past 11 years. Most recently, Laura served as the Director of Faith Formation at Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon. She was ordained in 2017 by the Pittsburgh Presbytery as the Organizing Pastor of Sanctuary Faith Community, a new worshipping community that was primarily a gathering for Lawrenceville young adults and people on the periphery of the Church. While serving as Sanctuary’s pastor, Oakmont Presbyterian Church became a partner congregation. At the time, Rev. Don Ewing was serving Oakmont as Parish Associate. Laura served at Oakmont Presbyterian Church as their part-time Mission Director.
Laura is a 2016 graduate of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, earning a Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Church Planting. Since beginning ministry as a youth pastor, Laura has followed a call to walk alongside teens, young adults, and those who feel disconnected from the church. Laura is passionate about helping people to notice God’s presence in their everyday lives, and to live out their faith beyond Sunday.
Laura lives with her family—her husband Ed, children Junia (6) and Oscar (2), and dog Calvin—in Mount Lebanon. In her downtime, Laura loves spending time outdoors, meeting friends for good coffee, and playing trivia games.

It is hard for me to believe that I am in my 11th year as a Pastoral Care Associate here at Southminster. As a “child of the church” it is so rewarding to see the many young families that attend Southminster. This church was a positive and formative force in my life and in my family’s activities. Church school, worship attendance, scout activities, mission trips and retreats to Windy Ridge are all etched in my mind. Please take advantage of the many opportunities available to grow and serve as a part of this dynamic congregation.
I continue to be amazed at the hope and healing work that is done by the Deacons, the staff and the Stephen Ministry team. If you ever feel alone or need someone to talk with please contact a staff member. If you would like to be trained as a Stephen Minister please let me know. It is an important yet meaningful devotion of your time to someone else.
I am blessed by being married to Gerri Barnes for 40 years. Our son Justin is currently living in Louisville, Ky. He is a Metallurgical Technician for Ithica Metals Research. My sister Jane Barnes is also an active member here at Southminster. My late brother Tom Barnes was an active member of the church growing up here. My parents, Tom and Peg Barnes made a wise choice when they moved to Mt. Lebanon in 1951 by joining Southminster (then Mt. Lebanon Presbyterian).
The staff is here to serve you at all times but you are also encouraged to serve one another with your time, talent and treasure as well. We indeed are ”rich in the grace of giving” here at Southminster. Grace and peace to you.
