In-Person Worship Guidelines
The Session of Southminster Presbyterian Church is pleased to announce that there are three worship options. We are one family, united in Christ, regardless of the mode of worship. Choose the option that is best for you with consideration for others.
  • Traditional service on Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary with guidelines,
  • Live streaming over YouTube and MixLr (links on website), and
  • Recorded service links are on the website and posted to Facebook on Monday for flexibility in worship time.
After reviewing current guidelines surrounding COVID-19 protocols, conferring with the Presbytery and seeking alignment with churches of similar demographics, the decision was made by Session to cautiously add on-site worship into scheduling. A phased approach will be adopted for other church programming as we learn from this initial initiative.
The safety of our members and friends is of utmost concern and, while we are not able to anticipate all challenges as we continue to learn about COVID-19, you can be assured that the church will be open for worship following current CDC guidelines and any state mandate. We ask for your patience and compliance with the worship guidelines to ensure the success of on-site activity. The church is committed to following COVID-19 protocol for cleaning and sanitizing the church both before and after the service.
Please see the following guidelines put in place to minimize risk to those who wish to worship in person.
  • If you are high-risk as published by the CDC, do not feel well, have flu-like symptoms (fever, body aches, chills, sore throat, cough, etc.), please worship from home using one of the two off-site options.
  • Face coverings (masks) that cover the nose and mouth will be required at all times while in the church building for anyone age 2 years and older. If you are not able to wear a face covering or unable to keep the covering in place for the full duration of time while in the building, please worship from home. We will have disposable masks available if you forget.
  • Reservations will be required using the link on the church website. Instructions will be provided within the link. Reservations for Sunday will open on Thursday morning and close when reservations are full. Only those with reservations will be able to attend worship for that Sunday. Please allow yourself extra time to arrive at the church on Sunday mornings given the following guidelines.
  • You will enter the church using the clearly marked entrance. A church volunteer will greet you and ask that you use the provided hand sanitizer and take your temperature with a church provided contactless thermometer. If your temperature is greater than 100.3 degrees, the greeter will kindly ask that you return home to worship. We suggest you take your temperature before you leave home and refrain from attending on-site worship if you have a fever.
  • When you enter the church, the usher will seat you and your family in blocked areas of the pews so that social distancing is maintained. We are all looking forward to seeing our friends, but we do ask that you remain in the pew and greet your neighbors with a wave. Further visiting should take place outside of the church building, maintaining social distance, while continuing to cover your nose and mouth with a mask. All worship activities will take place while seated in the pew. Childcare is not available. Worship music will be for listening and reflecting to minimize increased risk associated with singing.
  • Pew cushions, hymnals and Bibles have been removed. There will be an offering plate at the exit if you choose to donate in person vs the online donation options available on the website.
  • The restrooms near the parlor on the third floor will be available for emergency use only. We ask that one person at a time occupy the restroom and maintain social distance if you are waiting. Water fountains will be disabled.
  • Ushers will dismiss congregants by row using the designated exit. We ask that you wait until dismissed to avoid a crowded exit area. Again, visiting with friends should take place outside of the church building, maintaining social distance guidelines, and wearing a face covering that covers the nose and mouth until you leave church property including the parking lot.
Please watch the church website and the registration site for any important updates to the guidelines. The guidelines will be updated to stay current with evolving COVID-19 information. As we are able to add additional services and on-site programming, the website will be updated to include new opportunities.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have questions, please contact the Church Office at 412-343-8900 or info@spchurch.org.
