The Southminster Ringers – Ringers 1
These are High School members of Southminster who have ringing experience, have shown their commitment to ringing and have been recommended by their previous director. They present a varied concert of sacred and concert works in a variety of venues.
A 2018 Tour took the Ringers to Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece where they worked with ringing ensembles in all three countries, provided music for worship services, and played concerts in castles, concert halls, and outdoor venues.
Ringers 2 – Grades 6-8. These students are either new to ringing or working on their ringing skills. After demonstrating a commitment to ringing, most of these ringers will progress to Ringers I. They meet on Tuesday evenings from 5-6 p.m. during the school year. Ringers 2 perform regularly for our Celebrations of Worship and occasionally perform concerts in the community.
Samantha DeFurio is the director.
Ringers 3 gives students in grades 2 through 6 a chance to learn handbells. They meet on Tuesday afternoons from 5-6 p.m. during the school year. Ringers 3 perform regularly for our Celebrations of Worship and occasionally for concerts in the community. They begin working on thumb damps, plucking, mallets, martellato and all other techniques to prepare them for Ringers 2.
Essi Efthimiou is the director.

The Southminster Ringers have had a busy beginning to the 51st season with 9 Christmas Concerts and the continuation of our outdoor ringing on Christmas Eve at the corner of Washington Road and Castle Shannon Boulevard. One of the highlights of each Christmas season has been ringing at the Allegheny County Jail and this year we were fortunate to have a county photographer join us to take some photos of the event. We normally are not allowed any kind of recording equipment, so this year was special and I wanted to share those photos with you also:
