Fred Barnes has served as a Pastoral Care Associate at Southminster for over a decade. He is a “child of the church,” having grown up attending Southminster Presbyterian Church. The church was a positive and formative force in his life and in my family’s activities. Church school, worship attendance, scout activities, mission trips and retreats to Windy Ridge are all etched in his mind.

Fred continues to be amazed at the hope and healing work that is done by the Deacons, the staff, and the Stephen Ministry team. He notes, “If you ever feel alone or need someone to talk to with, please contact a staff member.” In his role, Fred also plans and facilitates Bible studies and small groups, Sunday Seminars, the Adult Interest Center, and the Stephen Ministry Team.

Fred has been blessed by being married to Gerri Barnes for 40 years. Fred and Gerri’s son Justin currently lives in Louisville, KY. He is a Metallurgical Technician for Ithica Metals Research. Fred’s sister, Jane Barnes, is also an active member of Southminster. His late brother, Tom Barnes, was an active member of the church growing up. His parents, Tom and Peg Barnes, made a wise choice when they moved to Mount Lebanon in 1951 by joining Southminster (then Mount Lebanon Presbyterian).
